Uttar Pradesh sees renewed monsoon activity with heavy rain alerts across multiple districts

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that monsoon activity, which had weakened over recent days, is picking up again in Uttar Pradesh as of 23 July 2026. District‑level heavy‑rain alerts were issued for ten districts – Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Gorakhpur and Basti – with expectations of thunder, lightning and moderate to heavy rainfall. In addition, a broader alert covering 69 districts in the state was announced, including eighteen districts expecting particularly intense rain, driven by a low‑pressure system in the Bay of Bengal. The IMD warned of possible water‑logging, flood‑related disruptions and landslide risks in hilly regions, and advised the public to avoid open fields, trees and unnecessary travel. Temperatures are expected to rise modestly, while humidity may increase, offering only temporary relief before monsoon activity is projected to strengthen again after 26 July.
