India weather alert: Heavy rain predicted across multiple states

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall warnings across multiple Indian states due to an active monsoon and a depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal.

In Odisha and West Bengal, red alerts have been issued for several districts, including Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Bankura, West Midnapore, and Jhargram. The low-pressure system is expected to move across Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar. In Odisha, authorities have been placed on high alert to manage potential flooding.

Uttar Pradesh is facing significant weather disruptions, with 24 districts under an orange alert and 22 districts under a yellow alert. Heavy rainfall is also forecasted for Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Uttarakhand. In Madhya Pradesh, 14 districts, including Rewa and Balaghat, are under an orange alert, with some areas expected to receive 4 to 8 inches of rain within 24 hours.

In the Himalayan region, Himachal Pradesh has seen a resurgence of monsoon activity, with orange alerts for Una, Chamba, and Kangra. Uttarakhand is also experiencing heavy rain, leading to risks of landslides and flash floods. In Delhi-NCR, moderate rainfall and cloudy skies are expected to continue, providing relief from heat and humidity.
