Indian automakers weigh price hikes amid rising commodity costs
Major Indian automakers Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra are considering further price increases for their vehicle lineups due to rising commodity costs impacting profit margins.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Managing Director Shailesh Chandra stated the company is reviewing monthly opportunities for progressive, incremental price increases to avoid immediate negative impacts on demand. The company recently implemented a price increase of up to 1 per cent for its commercial vehicle segments starting October 1.
Mahindra & Mahindra is also evaluating a potential price hike across its SUV portfolio, with a decision expected within the next two weeks. Automotive President and CEO Nalinikanth Gollagunta noted that the company has already implemented three price increases this year. Despite these adjustments, industry leaders suggest demand remains robust as current vehicle prices remain below pre-GST levels.
