Indian Coast Guard rescues 66-year-old patient in Lakshadweep
The Indian Coast Guard successfully conducted a critical medical evacuation of a 66-year-old patient from Lakshadweep despite severe weather conditions. The operation was carried out in coordination with the Lakshadweep administration and Coast Guard district headquarters in Kochi and Kavaratti.
The patient required urgent neurosurgical intervention and constant oxygen support. To facilitate the transfer from Agatti to Kochi, a Dornier aircraft was dispatched from the Kochi Coast Guard Air Station. Despite the challenging weather and the patient's critical health status, the crew provided continuous oxygen assistance during the flight to ensure the individual reached Kochi for necessary medical treatment.
In a separate recent operation, the Coast Guard also rescued a 36-year-old Bangladeshi sailor near Diglipur. The sailor had sustained serious head and spinal injuries after falling from the vessel MV Amris. The rescue was coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Vijayapuram and executed by the Coast Guard vessel Rajdoot.
