Indian Coast Guard maritime rescue operations
Overview
The Indian Coast Guard has conducted several maritime rescue and medical evacuation operations.
In late September, the agency stabilized the Belize-flagged tanker MT Seagull 9 off the coast of Odisha. The vessel, carrying 9,000 metric tons of palm oil, had experienced engine failure and flooding. A specialized damage control team used submersible pumps and sealed damaged pipelines to prevent the ship from capsizing, eventually moving it to an anchorage near Paradip. During this period, the Coast Guard also performed a medical evacuation of a seafarer from the Panama-flagged vessel HT Unite off the coast of Goa.
In early October, the Coast Guard executed a medical evacuation in Lakshadweep to transport a 66-year-old patient requiring urgent neurosurgery from Agatti to Kochi. Despite severe weather, a Dornier aircraft provided continuous oxygen support during the flight. Additionally, the Coast Guard vessel Rajdoot rescued a 36-year-old Bangladeshi sailor near Diglipur who had sustained head and spinal injuries after falling from the vessel MV Amris.
