Indian domestic worker rescued from exploitation in Kuwait

A 35-year-old woman from Kumbakonam, identified as Prema, has been rescued from Kuwait after enduring ten months of alleged torture and exploitation. Prema, a widow with two daughters, traveled to Kuwait for domestic work through agents from Kallakurichi.

According to her account, she was forced to work over 20 hours a day and was not paid the promised salary of 120 Kuwaiti dinars per month. When she requested to return to India, agents reportedly demanded 2 lakh rupees and threatened her. She claimed she was locked in a separate room and denied adequate food and water.

After Prema shared a video of her situation on social media, the Tamil Nadu Domestic Workers Welfare Trust intervened. She was eventually brought to Oman and arrived at Chennai airport on Monday. Prema cautioned others against trusting such agents and noted that other women from Kerala and Andhra Pradesh had faced similar hardships.
