Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visits Sri Lanka to boost ties

On August 5, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Colombo for a one‑day visit. He met Sri Lankan Foreign Secretary Aruni Ranatunga and is scheduled to meet President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Foreign Minister Visitha Herath. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations, regional and global issues, and advancing India’s “Neighbourhood First” and “Vision Ocean” initiatives.

During the visit, India’s High Commissioner Santosh Jha handed over 500 liters of technical malathion to Sri Lanka’s Health Minister Nalintha Jayathissa to support dengue‑control efforts. The two sides also exchanged seven memoranda of understanding covering defence cooperation, health, communications, energy and connectivity, building on more than $7.5 billion of Indian assistance to Sri Lanka across various development projects.
