Overview

In early August 2026, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri made a one‑day visit to Colombo. He met senior Sri Lankan officials, including the foreign secretary, president, prime minister and foreign minister, and the two sides signed seven memoranda of understanding covering defence, health, communications, energy and connectivity. During the same visit, Misri reviewed a $350 million line of credit that forms part of a $450 million reconstruction package pledged after Cyclone Ditwah. He raised the recurring issue of Indian fishermen detained by the Sri Lankan navy, urging Colombo to expedite their release, and reaffirmed the desire to deepen cooperation and prevent future maritime disputes.
