Indian High Courts order action reports on stray dogs and cattle menace

The Delhi High Court has taken up a suo motu public‑interest litigation to monitor compliance with the Supreme Court’s May 2025 directives on stray dogs. It has ordered the Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to file a detailed status report on measures taken, including actions against dog bites and the presence of stray dogs on court premises, by July 31.

The Odisha High Court has expanded a similar PIL to cover stray cattle on state roads. It directed the state government to submit an affidavit within three weeks outlining steps to remove roaming cows, buffaloes and bulls that obstruct traffic, and appointed senior advocates as amicus curiae to advise on the issue.
