Indian Navy launches indigenous anti‑submarine warfare craft Machilipatnam

Cochin Shipyard Limited launched “Machilipatnam”, the seventh of eight Anti‑Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts being built for the Indian Navy. The vessel, named after the historic port city in Andhra Pradesh, is equipped for underwater surveillance, anti‑submarine warfare, low‑intensity maritime operations and mine warfare, and features more than 80 % indigenous content.

The launch ceremony in New Delhi was attended by Vice Admiral Atul Anand, Additional Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs, along with senior navy and shipyard officials. The new craft is intended to bolster coastal defence, enhance maritime domain awareness and support the Indian Ocean Region’s security, underscoring India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat drive in defence manufacturing.
