Indian Navy receives Mangrol anti-submarine craft

Cochin Shipyard Limited has delivered the Mangrol, the third Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC), to the Indian Navy. Built in Kochi, the vessel is designed for coastal operations and is equipped with advanced sonars, radars, torpedoes, and anti-submarine rockets to detect and neutralize underwater threats.

The delivery is part of a larger 16-vessel programme intended to bolster India's maritime security and coastal defence. With the Mangrol's arrival, seven vessels from this programme have now been handed over. The ship's name honors a coastal town in Gujarat and revives the legacy of a former Indian Naval Minesweeper.

This induction occurs as the Indian Navy aims to commission 18 warships in 2026, marking its largest single-year force accretion. The programme emphasizes indigenous manufacturing, utilizing components from various Indian defense firms and MSMEs to enhance self-reliance in military production.
