Indian Navy sailor arrested for allegedly leaking maritime secrets

The Andhra Pradesh Counter Intelligence Cell has arrested 31-year-old Indian Navy sailor Pradeep Mukherjee in Coimbatore for allegedly leaking sensitive maritime intelligence to a Pakistani operative.

Mukherjee, a native of West Bengal who joined the Navy in 2014, was stationed with the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam. At the time of his arrest on October 3, 2026, he was attending a management development course at the INS Agrani leadership training center.

Investigators state that a female Pakistani intelligence agent contacted Mukherjee via social media several months ago, establishing an online relationship. This connection was allegedly used as a ‘honey-trap’ to extract classified information regarding strategic naval assets, fleet movements, and operational arrangements at the Visakhapatnam base. The arrest followed the detection of suspicious digital footprints and subsequent surveillance by intelligence officials.
