Indian Navy warships dock in Ho Chi Minh City to deepen India‑Vietnam defence ties

A task group of the Indian Navy comprising the stealth frigate INS Udaygiri, the corvette INS Kavaratti and the frigate INS Taragiri arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on 22 June for a three‑day goodwill port call. The vessels, carrying about 610 officers and sailors and led by Rear Admiral Alok Ananda, were welcomed by the Vietnam People’s Navy, city authorities and diplomatic representatives.

During the visit the crews will conduct professional exchanges, cross‑deck activities, sporting fixtures and community outreach, as well as senior‑level meetings to review the India‑Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The deployment follows the 2016 elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the recent 2026 joint statement reaffirming defence cooperation through 2030, including joint exercises, staff talks and technology co‑production.

The warships are scheduled to depart on 24 June for Thailand’s Sattahip Naval Base, underscoring India’s broader outreach in the Indo‑Pacific and its commitment to maritime security with Vietnam.
