Indian opposition plans Mumbai protest over Election Commissioner

Opposition parties in India, led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The controversy stems from the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which critics claim has deprived over 10 crore voters of their right to vote.

Reports indicate that Election Commissioners Vivek Joshi and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu have previously registered objections to the CEC, alleging arbitrary decision-making and an autocratic style of functioning. In response to these developments, the CJP has organized a ‘Jail Bharo’ agitation scheduled for October 2.

The CJP clarified that the October 2 protest is specifically scheduled to take place at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. However, the Mumbai Police have denied permission for the demonstration, citing existing legal restrictions and government orders, and have advised organizers to seek an alternative venue.
