Indian police conduct major heroin seizures and drug trafficking crackdowns
Law enforcement agencies in northern India have conducted significant operations against drug trafficking. In Ambala, Haryana, the police reported a record seizure of approximately 7.24 kg of heroin between January 1 and October 2, 2026. This crackdown, led by Superintendent of Police Ajit Singh Shekhawat, resulted in the arrest of 253 traffickers and the sealing of 12 houses built with illegal properties. The 2026 figures represent a significant increase in seizures and arrests compared to the previous three years.
In a separate operation in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, the Kangra Police CIA team arrested five individuals, including a woman, following a raid at a hotel. Authorities recovered 7.92 grams of suspected ‘Chitta’ (heroin) and seized a vehicle. The suspects, including a resident of Haryana, are being interrogated to uncover potential links to a broader drug supply network.
