Narcotics enforcement in Pakistan and India

Overview

Authorities in Pakistan and India have conducted significant anti-narcotics operations involving large-scale seizures and arrests.

In Pakistan, the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department seized 960 kilograms of narcotics, including 720kg of hashish and 240kg of opium, during an intelligence-led operation in Peshawar. A suspect reportedly opened fire on officials before fleeing.

In India, law enforcement agencies have targeted multiple smuggling networks. The Enforcement Directorate previously arrested an individual linked to a heroin smuggling operation across Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana, alleging the generation of Rs 89 crore in criminal proceeds with potential international links to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Dubai.

Recent enforcement in India has seen intensified activity. In Udupi, police operations led to the arrest of nine individuals and the seizure of 1.35 kg of ganja, 32.74 grams of methamphetamine, and cash, with some ganja allegedly sourced from Kerala. In Delhi’s Narela area, police arrested a long-time peddler, Parvati, and her associate, Vikas Kumar, recovering smack valued at approximately Rs 2 crore.

In Haryana, police in Ambala reported a record seizure of approximately 7.24 kg of heroin between January 1 and October 2, 2026. This crackdown resulted in the arrest of 253 traffickers and the sealing of 12 houses built with illegal properties, marking a significant increase in enforcement compared to the previous three years. Additionally, in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, the Kangra Police CIA team arrested five individuals following a hotel raid, recovering 7.92 grams of suspected ‘Chitta’ (heroin).
