Indian political parties clash over electoral roll revision

Political leaders in India are divided over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP and Lok Sabha floor leader, defended the process in Andhra Pradesh, describing it as fair and transparent. He noted that election authorities and booth-level officers have spent four months verifying voter status and enrolling eligible citizens, and asserted that all political parties have had opportunities to raise concerns.

In contrast, Bhongir Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy has demanded the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Reddy alleged a conspiracy to deprive citizens of their right to vote, claiming that 13 crore votes have been deleted nationwide. He criticized the current appointment process for the CEC, arguing it excludes the Chief Justice of India, and called for Supreme Court intervention to investigate allegations of voter registration irregularities in Karnataka and issues regarding CCTV footage in Haryana.
