President Droupadi Murmu makes historic three‑nation state visit to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania

Indian President Droupadi Murmu embarked on a three‑nation European tour, beginning in Moldova on 20 July. It was the first visit by an Indian head of state to Moldova, where she met President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, and addressed the India‑Moldova Business Forum, highlighting cooperation in trade, technology, renewable energy and education. A bust of Mahatma Gandhi was presented and a wreath laid at the Stefan cel Mare monument.

The visit continued to North Macedonia on 21 July, marking the first Indian presidential visit to Skopje. Murmu was welcomed by President Gordana Siljanovska‑Davkova and Foreign Trade Minister Timcho Mucunski, held bilateral talks, addressed the Assembly and the India‑North Macedonia Business Forum, and discussed agriculture, pharmaceuticals and IT‑enabled services. Temporary traffic restrictions were imposed in Skopje’s centre for security.

The final leg began on 23 July in Romania, the first Indian presidential visit there in over three decades. Murmu met President Nicuşor Dan, interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and parliamentary leaders, and addressed the India‑Romania Business Forum. Security measures in Chișinău limited public access on 20 July as part of the diplomatic protocol. Across the three countries the president urged "partnerships built on trust and shared prosperity" and invited Moldovan businesses to explore opportunities in India.
