Indian railway passengers and police intercept smuggling and theft

In separate incidents on Indian railways, passengers and police have intercepted criminal activities involving smuggling and theft.

On the Bandra-Bhuj Superfast Special train, passengers discovered a large consignment of foreign liquor and beer hidden in an AC coach. After noticing unclaimed bags, passengers alerted the train attendant and detained three suspected bootleggers who attempted to flee. Two other suspects escaped. The goods and three travel bags were seized by the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police upon arrival in Surat. Five FIRs have been registered under the Gujarat Prohibition Act.

In Hyderabad, the Secunderabad Railway Police arrested two real-estate brokers for sedating a passenger on the Sabari Superfast Express. The suspects allegedly offered the victim water laced with intoxicating tablets, allowing them to steal his mobile phone and cash. Police recovered a mobile phone and Rs. 500 in cash during the arrest.
