Indian Railway Police enhance security through technology and coordination
The 8th All India Conference of Government Railway Police (GRP) Chiefs concluded in New Delhi, focusing on intelligence-led policing and enhanced passenger safety. Presided over by Railway Protection Force (RPF) Director General Sonali Mishra, the conference addressed emerging security challenges and the need for better coordination between the RPF, GRP, and state police forces.
Key initiatives include integrating GRP personnel into the RailMadad platform via the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) to improve grievance redressal and complaint monitoring. To combat crime, authorities are emphasizing technology-driven surveillance, such as the South Central Railway’s ‘Pink Patrol’ model, which combines drone-assisted monitoring with rapid-response teams.
The conference also addressed specific threats, such as stone-pelting on trains, by proposing hotspot-based patrolling and community outreach. Additionally, officials developed crowd management strategies for upcoming major festivals, including Diwali and Chhath Puja, emphasizing coordinated deployment and passenger-flow management to ensure orderly movement during peak travel periods.
