Indian Railways launches 12 special train pairs for Shravani Mela 2026

Shravan month in 2026, spanning July 30 to August 28, is regarded as a highly auspicious period in Vedic astrology, linked to the Shravan Nakshatra and the worship of Lord Shiva. The month is believed to enhance spiritual practices such as fasting, mantra chanting, and devotion.

To accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims traveling from Sultanganj in Bihar to the Baba Baidyanath Dham shrine in Deoghar during the Shravani Mela, Indian Railways announced the operation of 12 pairs of special trains. The services will run on routes including Jaynagar–Asansol, Raxaul–Deoghar, Danapur–Sahibganj and Ranchi–Bhagalpur, with additional stoppages at Sultanganj station and increased MEMU frequencies. Extra railway staff will be deployed to manage crowds and ensure smooth travel for hundreds of thousands of devotees.

The combined focus on the religious significance of Shravan and the logistical arrangements underscores the importance of the Shravani Mela as a major cultural and pilgrimage event in India.
