Indian real estate firms advance sustainable construction initiatives
Major Indian real estate players are advancing sustainability through new certifications and material innovation initiatives.
Raymond Realty’s TenX Habitat Phase 1 in Thane has been awarded the IGBC Silver rating by the Indian Green Building Council. The certification recognizes the project for outstanding performance in sustainable design, energy efficiency, water harvesting, and the use of eco-friendly building materials. The development aims to provide residents with reduced utility costs and a minimized carbon footprint.
Separately, Godrej Properties and Xynteo have launched ‘Habitat Matters,’ a corporate social responsibility initiative focused on the Indian construction sector. The program aims to identify, test, and validate low-carbon construction materials on active project sites. By piloting innovations in real-world conditions over the next five years, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between theoretical material science and large-scale industry deployment to address the carbon impact of cement, steel, and glass.
