Indian Register of Shipping to open new office in Hamburg

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) is establishing a new office in Hamburg, Germany, to expand its European presence and strengthen ties with the maritime industry. The German entity is currently undergoing registration.

As a member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) and a body recognized by the European Commission, IRS intends to use the Hamburg base to engage with shipowners, managers, shipyards, and technology companies. The move aims to facilitate connections between European maritime manufacturers and India’s expanding shipbuilding and maritime manufacturing sectors.

IRS Executive Chairman Arun Sharma noted that the location is strategic for supporting advanced technologies, including green shipping, alternative fuels, decarbonization, digitalization, and smart ship solutions. Hamburg Invest supported the establishment process, highlighting the city's role as a global maritime hub.
