Indian States Reassign IAS Officers to New Administrative Roles

The Himachal Pradesh government has given additional responsibilities to five Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, expanding their duties across key departments such as industries, tourism, energy, transport and digital governance. Governor Kavinder Gupta issued the orders, which will remain in effect until further notice. Among the changes, Shubh Karan Singh, previously Special Secretary (Education), now also serves as Director of Energy.

In Haryana, the state appointed IAS officer Virender Kumar Dahiya as Secretary of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, replacing an HCS officer after legal objections raised over the eligibility of the previous appointee. Dahiya, formerly Director of State Transport, assumes the role following a campaign by advocate Hemant Kumar and concerns voiced by local officials and an MP.

Both appointments aim to ensure continuity and compliance with service rules while strengthening administrative coordination within the respective state governments.
