Indian Super League transitions to club-led model amid Jamshedpur FC exit

The Indian Super League (ISL) has launched a fan feedback survey to gather insights on club preferences, matchday experiences, and viewing habits. This initiative coincides with a transition toward a new club-led commercial model, granting the league's 14 clubs greater autonomy over management and commercial decisions.

However, the league faces instability as Jamshedpur FC has decided to exit the ISL and shut operations following Tata Steel’s decision to withdraw funding. This exit occurs despite the implementation of the new club-led model and government intervention. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya addressed the situation, maintaining an optimistic outlook by stating that football is making progress and that the emergence of new clubs is a sign of growth.

The league is also navigating a period of structural change following disputes between the All India Football Federation and Football Sports Development Limited regarding the competition's commercial future. The 2026-27 season is scheduled to begin on September 4, returning to a full home-and-away format.
