Jamshedpur Football Club announced on 31 July 2026 that it would not compete in the 2026–27 Indian Super League (ISL) season after failing to meet a Rs 55 lakh participation fee required under a new club-led model. Sundara Ramam stated that the company will fulfil contractual commitments if players are not picked up elsewhere. While staff and coaches will continue their roles, the exit has raised concerns regarding the local economic impact on vendors and stadium workers in Jamshedpur.

Former India captain Sunil Chhetri described the move as a “punch in the gut,” and fans gathered at Birsa Munda Stadium in Ranchi to petition the club to reconsider. Amidst this instability, the ISL is transitioning to a model granting clubs greater commercial autonomy and has launched a fan feedback survey. Despite the club's withdrawal, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya expressed optimism, stating that the emergence of new clubs is a sign of growth. The 2026–27 season is scheduled to begin on 4 September with a full home-and-away format.
