Indian women's hockey team departs for Europe ahead of 2026 World Cup

The India women's national field hockey team left Bengaluru for Mumbai and then flew to Frankfurt on Wednesday to begin the final phase of its preparation for the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup, which will be staged in Belgium and the Netherlands from 15 to 30 August.

While in Germany the squad will play back‑to‑back friendly matches against the host nation on 31 July and 1 August, after which it will travel to Amsterdam on 2 August for a short training stint before the tournament. India has been drawn in Pool D and will open its World Cup campaign against China on 16 August, followed by matches versus South Africa and England. Captain Salima Tete said the team is confident after a good training block and intends to give its best to make the country proud.

The preparatory tour is intended to help the players adapt to European conditions and fine‑tune their combinations ahead of the marquee event.
