Midwest and Plains Face Severe Thunderstorm Threats

Isolated severe wind gusts of up to 60 mph are possible this afternoon in northern Wyoming and far southwest South Dakota, according to the Storm Prediction Center. The environment is only modestly unstable, but strong shear may produce brief damaging winds.

In northeast Wisconsin an Enhanced Risk (Level 3) has been issued for severe thunderstorms that could bring straight‑line wind gusts of 70 mph or greater, hail up to 2 inches, and an isolated tornado. Communities from Green Bay to Appleton and Oshkosh are warned to secure outdoor items and be prepared for power outages.

Indiana forecasters expect strong to severe storms late Sunday night into Monday, with damaging wind gusts and heat‑index values between 100 °F and 105 °F. Heavy rain may accompany the storms, but flooding risk is low. A further round of storms could persist into Monday night, after which a quieter, drier stretch is expected for the rest of the work week.
