Indiana Fever prioritize re-signing Kelsey Mitchell amid free agency
Indiana Fever general manager Amber Cox has identified re-signing guard Kelsey Mitchell as a ‘major priority’ following the team’s first-round playoff loss to the Las Vegas Aces. Mitchell, who has spent her entire nine-year career with the franchise, is set to become an unrestricted free agent.
Mitchell had a standout season, averaging 24.7 points per game and shooting a career-high 50.9 percent from the field. She has been a central component of the Fever’s core alongside Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark. During the regular season, the team maintained a plus-8.7 net rating with Mitchell on the court, compared to a minus-0.1 rating when she was off the floor.
Regarding her upcoming free agency, Mitchell stated she intends to be ‘selfish’ in her decision-making process to determine what is best for her career. She noted that while chemistry is a vital factor, she must prioritize her own needs as she navigates her first career decision outside of the Indiana organization.
