Indiana reduces debris cleanup costs for storm-affected counties

Governor Mike Braun announced that the State of Indiana will reduce debris removal costs for eleven counties recovering from severe weather in August. Under this plan, local governments will be responsible for only 6.25 percent of eligible project costs.

As part of a federal Major Disaster Declaration, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will reimburse 75 percent of eligible debris removal costs. The State of Indiana will cover 75 percent of the remaining 25 percent local share, which equates to 18.75 percent of the total eligible cost.

The eligible counties currently approved for this assistance include Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Henry, LaPorte, Lake, Madison, Porter, Tipton, and Wayne. The state has also secured contractors to assist communities with debris management.
