Indianapolis Colts release wide receiver Darius Slayton

The Indianapolis Colts have released veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton, just weeks after signing him to the roster. Slayton, 29, never appeared in a game for the franchise.

Slayton was originally brought in to provide a downfield threat following an injury to the team’s leading receiver, Alec Pierce, who was placed on injured reserve. Despite being signed to address the depth issue, Slayton remained a healthy scratch during Weeks 3 and 4 while learning the offense. A potential debut in Week 5 was hindered by a knee injury sustained during practice.

Slayton joins the free agent market after spending seven seasons with the New York Giants. The Colts' decision to release him comes as they look to manage their roster following Pierce's absence.
