India's 8th Central Pay Commission to Submit Final Report by May 3 2027

The 8th Central Pay Commission was constituted on 3 November 2025 to review salaries, allowances and pensions of India’s central government employees and pensioners. Under its terms of reference, the commission has 18 months to present its recommendations, setting a statutory deadline of 3 May 2027, although it may submit the report earlier. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary told the Rajya Sabha that the commission operates autonomously and is not required to give the government periodic progress updates.

Once the report is submitted, the Union government will examine the recommendations and the Cabinet will decide which proposals to accept, modify or reject, with no fixed timeline for implementation. Employees have floated a fitment factor of 3.83, which could raise the minimum basic pay from about ₹18,000 to roughly ₹69,000, while the 7th Pay Commission’s 2.57 factor had lifted the minimum from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000. The commission is chaired by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, with Professor Pulak Ghosh as a part‑time member and Pankaj Jain as Member‑Secretary.
