India's 8th Central Pay Commission Schedules Stakeholder Meetings in Chandigarh

The Eighth Central Pay Commission will be in Chandigarh from 16 to 18 September 2026 to hold three days of stakeholder consultations. Participants from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Chandigarh may request appointments through an online portal by 25 August 2026, providing a Unique Memo ID generated at the time of request. The commission will also meet with central‑government and Union‑Territory employee associations in Delhi (7‑10 August) and conduct separate visits to Chennai (7‑8 September) and Puducherry (9 September).

The commission’s mandate is to review the pay structure, allowances and pension arrangements for central‑government employees, with its recommendations expected to be submitted to the government in the first half of the next year. During a parliamentary question, Rajya Sabha MP Javed Ali Khan asked whether employee unions had sought an increase in the number of family units used to calculate the fitment factor, but the Finance Ministry replied that the commission’s terms of reference do not require it to keep the government updated on its deliberations.
