India's 8th Pay Commission Holds Meetings on Salary and Pension Demands

The 8th Pay Commission of India has scheduled meetings in New Delhi on May 13‑14, 2026, with employee and pensioner organisations from the defence and railway sectors, as well as other central government staff. Unions are presenting demands for higher basic pay, revised fitment factors, annual increments and changes to dearness allowance (DA). The commission has also set up an online portal for central employees, pensioners and unions to submit suggestions on nine listed allowance topics, including DA, qualification and extra‑duty allowances, by May 31.

Key requests include a minimum basic salary of Rs 52,600, a 5 % yearly increase, and the inclusion of items such as internet and health‑insurance costs in the DA calculation. Submissions must be entered through the “8CPC Memorandum Submission” portal, include a memo ID and be limited to 10,000 characters.
