India's 8th Pay Commission Proposes INR 69,000 Minimum Pay, Schedules Delhi Talks
The 8th Pay Commission, chaired by former Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, is reviewing pay and pension structures for roughly one crore central government employees and retirees. The National Council‑Joint Consultative Machinery (NC‑JCM) has demanded a minimum basic pay of INR 69,000 and a 6 % annual increment, up from the current 3 %, with final recommendations expected by mid‑2027.
The commission has announced meetings in Delhi on August 7 and 10, following earlier consultations in Kolkata. Organisations that have submitted memoranda but have not yet met the panel may apply by July 31 to present recommendations on pay revision, pensions, allowances, fitment factors and other service conditions. These stakeholder sessions are part of the commission’s ongoing data‑collection process before it finalises its report.
