India's BRICS Chairmanship Highlights Space Economy and Security Cooperation

Union Minister Jitendra Singh used the BRICS Heads of Space Agencies meeting in Bengaluru to advocate a collective "BRICS Space Economy" as a growth driver. He released an Indian Space Industry brochure and said, “The future of the space economy will not be shaped by nations working in isolation. It will be shaped by partnerships, shared innovation and collective ambition.” The two‑day session, hosted by ISRO under India’s 2026 BRICS chairship, gathered space agency heads from Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, South Africa and the UAE to discuss remote‑sensing constellations, debris‑free missions and joint applications in disaster management, agriculture and health.

At the same time, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval praised the coalition at the 16th BRICS National Security Advisers’ meeting in New Delhi, calling BRICS “a very special coalition of countries that believe in peace, progress, development, and cooperation.” He warned of “geopolitical uncertainties, economic strains and disruptive technology” and urged the bloc to play a stronger role in global security and governance. The meeting featured senior security officials from the same eleven BRICS members, underscoring the group’s expanding influence in both economic and strategic domains.
