India's CBI arrests railway officials over exam paper leak and tender bribery

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced on 4 July that it has arrested two suspects in Bangalore for allegedly leaking the question paper of the South Western Railway’s General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE‑2022) and passing it to selected candidates. The agency seized scanners, printers, electronic devices and candidate records, and is probing a broader network involved in the fraud.

In a separate case, the CBI also arrested the Chief Materials Manager of Northern Railway, a senior clerk and two private individuals on suspicion of taking a one‑lakh‑rupee bribe to secure railway tenders for a private company. Raids were conducted in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr and Kanpur, resulting in the seizure of documents, digital equipment and cash. Both investigations remain ongoing as the CBI expands its inquiry into additional officials and companies involved.
