India's CISF seizes 1,277 MT illegal coal in nationwide crackdown

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) intensified a nationwide drive against illegal coal mining, theft and unauthorised transportation from July 20 to 26, acting under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 and directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs. In 85 intelligence‑based raids across coal subsidiaries, CISF seized 1,277 metric tonnes of illegally mined coal, registered one FIR, arrested five persons and confiscated 40 vehicles.

Unit‑wise, the operation recovered 771 MT at Bharat Coking Coal Limited’s Dhanbad East sector, 341 MT at Eastern Coalfields Limited’s Sheetalpur North‑East sector‑II, 145 MT at Central Coalfields Limited’s Kargali, and 20 MT at North Karanpura Piparwar, alongside several vehicle seizures and arrests.
