Overview

Following Amit Shah’s 5 July directive for zero coal leakage, the CISF moved from the 9 July seizure of 428 t to a three‑week operation that concluded on 19 July, confiscating 1,798.7 t of illegal coal and 84 vehicles across BCCL, ECL, CCL and CMP (H). The force used intelligence, CCTV and real‑time monitoring under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, filing 21 complaints.

Building on that momentum, the CISF launched a nationwide drive from 20 to 26 July, conducting 85 intelligence‑based raids at coal subsidiaries. This phase recovered an additional 1,277 t of illicit coal – 771 t at BCCL Dhanbad East, 341 t at ECL Sheetalpur North‑East II, 145 t at CCL Kargali and 20 t at North Karanpura Piparwar – and resulted in one FIR, five arrests and the seizure of 40 further vehicles. The operation underscores a continued, technology‑enabled enforcement strategy coordinated with coal companies and state authorities to achieve the zero‑leakage target.
