India’s Clean Energy Sector Gains Momentum Across Solar and Wind Markets
India’s renewable energy landscape is rapidly evolving into an integrated ecosystem. Solar capacity expanded to nearly 129 GW in 2025, up from 3 GW in 2014, and non‑fossil sources now provide over half of the country’s 500 GW installed power capacity. Government programmes such as PM Surya Ghar and PM‑KUSUM have spurred rooftop solar adoption by about 2.4 million households, generating roughly 7 GW, and installed over 9.2 lakh solar irrigation pumps, reducing diesel use in agriculture. By October 2025, 55 solar parks with a combined 40 GW sanctioned capacity were approved, while domestic manufacturing of modules, batteries and advanced cells is being accelerated to cut import reliance.
The clean‑energy sector is also attracting strong investor interest. In early 2026, renewable‑focused stocks outperformed broader Indian markets, driven by rising electricity demand, supportive policies and global energy‑security concerns. Suzlon Energy reported a record wind‑turbine order book of about 6.4 GW and quarterly deliveries of 617 MW, while improving its cash position to ₹1,556 crore. Tata Power, Inox Wind and Waaree Energies also benefited from the surge in solar and wind projects, positioning the sector as a key growth driver for the Indian economy.
