India's Commerce Minister Piyoush Goyal leads delegation to Canada to advance trade pact
India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will travel to Canada from May 25‑27, 2026, heading a delegation of about 150 Indian business leaders. The mission aims to accelerate negotiations on a proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) – a free‑trade deal – and to attract Canadian investment, including meetings with the “Maple 8” pension funds that manage roughly C$2.4 trillion.
Officials said the talks target expanding bilateral trade from the current $8.66 billion to $50 billion within five years and eventually $70 billion by 2030. Goyal plans meetings with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, counterpart Maninder Sidhu, and industry representatives in Ottawa and Toronto, while seeking to raise the number of Canadian companies operating in India from 600 to 1,000.
