India's Congress party opposes proposed FCRA Bill

Political tension is rising in India over the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) Bill, 2026. The Congress party has declared its opposition to the legislation, with MP KC Venugopal labeling it an "unconstitutional bill" and accusing the central government of targeting minorities.

In response, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Congress party of attempting to alter the country's demographics. BJP spokesperson RP Singh alleged that the opposition's resistance is linked to efforts to facilitate religious conversions in collaboration with foreign powers.

Additionally, the Indian government has dismissed international commentary regarding the FCRA amendment, including remarks from a U.S. Member of Congress, asserting that legislative matters are strictly internal sovereign affairs to be decided by Parliament.
