India's Defence Exports Rise Sharply After Operation Sindoor

Union Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh said that the recent Operation Sindoor, in which India deployed the Brahmos missile, has markedly boosted global interest in India's indigenous defence manufacturing. Defence production has risen 174% since 2014, reaching a total value of about 1.5 lakh crore rupees, and exports have climbed to roughly 23,000 crore rupees, with new buyers including Indonesia and Vietnam. Singh highlighted that the operation, launched as a response to the Pahalgam terror attack and targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan, demonstrated the quality and lethality of Indian weapon systems, prompting foreign markets to recognise India’s capabilities. He contrasted this surge with India's historic reliance on foreign imports, noting past shortages during the 1962 conflict with China.
