Speaking at the inauguration of a defence‑aerospace manufacturing grid, he highlighted a Rs 1,000‑crore artillery plant spanning 200 acres in the Savali Vihir industrial estate near Shirdi, the largest private‑sector facility of its kind in India.

Singh linked the new hub to a broader "Make in India" drive, noting parallel ordnance development at Belwandi targeting 20,000 tonnes of annual explosive output. He stressed that self‑reliance in weapons is essential for a secure and powerful India and outlined a goal of raising private‑sector defence production to 50 % of total capacity, up from the current 25‑30 %.

The minister’s remarks come amid ongoing conflicts such as the Russia‑Ukraine war and tensions in West Asia, underscoring the strategic shift toward indigenous high‑tech weapon systems.
