India showcases indigenous defence strength in Operation Sindoor

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Operation Sindoor demonstrated India’s “world‑class” defence preparedness and highlighted the success of a 12‑year push for self‑reliance. The operation deployed advanced indigenous systems such as the Akash missile, Akash Teer air‑defence platform and BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, illustrating the armed forces’ modern technological warfare capability.

Singh noted that five positive indigenisation lists from the armed forces now cover 509 items, and five similar lists from defence public‑sector undertakings cover 5,012 items, with another list to be notified soon. Annual defence production reached a record Rs 1.78 lakh crore in FY 2025‑26, up from about Rs 40,000 crore in 2014, and the government aims for Rs 2 lakh crore this year and Rs 3 lakh crore by 2029, with export targets of Rs 50,000 crore by 2029. Singh described the operation as proof of India’s zero‑tolerance stance against terrorism and its growing indigenous defence manufacturing capacity.
