India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Highlights Operation Sindoor's Technological Edge

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the North Tech Symposium in Prayagraj, emphasizing Operation Sindoor as a showcase of India’s modern warfare capabilities. Launched on May 7, 2023 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack, the operation targeted terror infrastructure in areas under Pakistan’s control and lasted four days until a cease‑fire on May 10. Singh cited the use of advanced systems such as the Akash surface‑to‑air missile, BrahMos cruise missile, drones and sensor networks, describing the strike as a “unique” example of technology‑driven combat.

He called for “pro‑active preparation” and stressed that future wars will be decided in laboratories, noting that 25 % of defence R&D funding has been allocated to industry, academia and start‑ups, with free access to DRDO patents and a waiver of technology‑transfer fees. The three‑day symposium, co‑organised by the Indian Army’s Northern and Central Commands and the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers, featured more than 250 companies displaying indigenous defence technologies, underscoring India’s push to integrate civilian innovations into military use.
