India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Opens DRDO Advanced Weapon System Complex in Hyderabad

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Advanced Weapon System Complex at DRDO's Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL) within the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex in Hyderabad, Telangana on 12 June 2026.

In his address he praised the Missile Systems & Strategic Systems Cluster for its contribution to India's technological excellence, strategic autonomy and national security, citing the performance of indigenous missile systems such as Akash and BrahMos during Operation Sindoor. Singh highlighted the role of air‑defence in thwarting aerial threats and reiterated the government's commitment to the multi‑layer missile defence programme “Mission Sudarshan Chakra”, which aims to protect military, critical and civil infrastructure.

He stressed the need for “resilience” and “deterrence” in modern warfare, noting advances in precision‑strike capabilities, integrated air‑defence, hypersonic weapons, autonomous platforms, artificial intelligence, electronic warfare and advanced sensors. Singh described the inauguration as a symbol of India’s resolve to be alert, capable and self‑reliant in the face of evolving global security challenges.
