India's DRDO completes successful flight test of indigenous long-range cruise missile

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful flight test of its indigenously developed Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. The missile met all mission objectives, validating critical subsystems such as navigation, guidance, propulsion and flight‑control, and demonstrated the capability to strike strategic land targets from extended stand‑off distances.

The LRLACM programme, built with extensive participation from Indian public‑ and private‑sector defence firms, aims to provide the armed forces with a flexible precision‑strike system that can be launched from mobile ground platforms as well as from naval vessels via a universal vertical launch module. The trial follows a maiden flight in November 2024 and the data collected will be analysed to further refine the weapon’s performance, underscoring India’s drive toward self‑reliance in advanced missile technology.
