India's EV sector to create up to 40 million jobs by 2030

A report by talent firm Adecco India projects that the Indian electric‑vehicle (EV) industry could generate between 30 million and 40 million jobs by 2030. Of these, 10‑15 % are expected to be direct positions in manufacturing, battery assembly, engineering and charging‑infrastructure deployment, while the remaining 85‑90 % will be indirect jobs across the broader supply chain, logistics, services and recycling.

Hiring is forecast to rise 15‑20 % each year as demand expands for specialised talent in battery technology, power electronics and energy‑system engineering. India currently contributes roughly 4 % of global passenger‑EV production and 17 % of the two‑wheeler EV market. The report, based on data from more than 100 companies, notes that state‑level EV policies—such as Delhi’s Rs 7,000‑crore EV Policy 2026—are accelerating the shift from incentive‑driven adoption to industrial‑scale employment. The expansion is also linked to broader goals of reducing crude‑oil import dependence, enhancing energy security and supporting India’s net‑zero emissions target for 2070.
