India's FTAs to boost market access for MSMEs and women workers, says UN

United Nations Resident Coordinator in India Stefan Priesner has stated that Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) will be essential for expanding market access across India’s economic ecosystem. These agreements are expected to benefit both large-scale industries and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

Speaking regarding the growth potential of the domestic textile and apparel market, Priesner noted that transitioning toward sustainable manufacturing and circular business models will allow India to access vital international markets. He suggested that India has the opportunity to lead the fashion industry through ingenious design, sustainability, and responsibility.

Furthermore, Priesner emphasized the social importance of industrial expansion, highlighting that MSMEs provide significant employment opportunities for women. He stressed that for growth to be equitable, industrial development must adhere to global labor standards and promote inclusive, decent work.
